What it's like to live in Midway

Swiss heritage is part of the town's identity. Every year, on the Friday and Saturday before Labor Day, Midway hosts Swiss Days, with an outdoor market of artisans and vendors, Swiss food, and a parade.

The Utah Crater, long known as the Homestead Crater, is a geothermal spring inside a beehive-shaped limestone dome at the Homestead in Midway, where you can swim, snorkel, or scuba dive.

Wasatch Mountain State Park is right by town, with two 36-hole golf courses, Wasatch Mountain and Soldier Hollow. Soldier Hollow hosted cross-country skiing and biathlon at the 2002 Winter Olympics and is planned as a venue again in 2034.

Getting outside in Midway

  • Soldier Hollow Nordic Center, about 4 road miles away: cross-country skiing, tubing, and snowshoeing in winter, and mountain biking and golf in summer.
  • Golf at Wasatch Mountain State Park's two 36-hole courses.
  • Deer Valley's East Village, about 10 road miles away via US-40.
  • Seasonal mountain roads over Guardsman Pass connect Midway with Park City in summer and fall. In winter, plan on US-40.

Good to know before you buy in Midway

Short-term rentals

Midway only allows nightly rentals inside its Transient Rental Overlay District, with a city business license and a licensed property manager. Outside the Resort and Commercial zones, a conditional use permit is also required. On September 1, 2026, the city council pulled back the district's boundaries, so some homes that used to qualify no longer do.

Getting to the airport. Midway is about 54 road miles from Salt Lake City International, compared with about 40 from Park City's Main Street.
